"More than just memories"
I visited Yellowstone as a young child with my Parents. It is one of my fondest childhood memories...So, when our Daughter decided to attend college in Seattle, I knew we couldn't travel that direction without spending a few days in the park...As a child, the trip was awesome, but we were just tourists taking in the scenery...I wanted more than that for my children...As I googled all the info I could on Yellowstone, I found Lava Creek Adventures...It was the greatest find I could have hoped for...When I called, Debbie sounded very busy, but made me feel as though I was the only person that mattered to her at that moment...We booked our tour and was told Rick would be our guide...He is a retired science teacher, who taught in the West Yellowstone School system for 25 years...Wow! He was so interesting, that my 14 year old Son asked to sit in the front seat so he could ask questions...We spent 8 hours with Rick, hiking, sightseeing and learning...Best of all, he took us to places where we were all by ourselves, just my Wife, Children and I taking in the most beautiful country in the world, without the hustle-n-bussle of fellow tourists...Thank you Lava Creek Adventures for making me the coolest Dad in the world, at least for one day!!

"Lava Creek kayaking - great guide!"
Debbie led us on the Quake Lake kayaking trip and I can't say enough positive things about the whole experience. Not only did she instruct us on the correct way to kayak but also gave us the history of Quake Lake and lots of information about the wildlife. She was a pleasure to be with the entire time. I'd highly recommend Lava Creek for any of your guiding needs.

Thank you and David for the wonderful time we had on our morning hike and afternoon on the lake. If we are in Yellowstone in the future, we will certainly call and book with you again for more hiking and water adventure. Thanks!

"Experienced local guide made our day superb"
We (family with 2 teenage boys, not easy to impress) booked the one day park and rafting session with Lava Creek, partly because of good reviews here. We were very pleased with our decision and had a wonderful day that is one of the highest high points of our 3 weeks tour of the USA. David Robinson was a excellent guide, he is knowledgeable as you would hope, but also has a relaxed friendly manner that went down well with the boys, and is so well prepared with all the little extras that bring facts to life. Talking about buffalo he brought out a packet of buffalo hair for us to feel, talking about the re-growth of the pine forests after the fire he brought out a special cone that the trees grow to withstand heat - to illustrate his stories. Yellowstone is amazing anyway, but to have a local resident telling us how the landscape came to be how it is, how the park is managed, and taking us off-path to see special features was a huge benefit. We spent half the day white water rafting on a river that was a lot fuller (and therefore calmer) than usual, and enjoyed the different perspective on the park from river level, as well as liking the thrills of the large(ish) waves. We did the half day guiding half day rafting for budget reasons, but if I was to do it again I would go for a full day guiding, and half day rafting on another day. It costs a lot of time, money and trouble to get to Yellowstone in the first place, and you might as well get the best out of it when you are there. We then spent a few days touring the park by ourselves, and benefited a lot from David's advice about what to see and what to do, best places and timings to see animals etc. Strongly recommended, you won't regret booking with Lava Creek!

Thanks for the wonderful tour! Our whole group enjoyed everything about it...having you guide us, the stories, the lunch by the river, and all the special stops to view some beautiful areas of Yellowstone. I am attaching a few pictures. If we are ever up in that area we will give you a call. If it is up to my David, we will be heading that way again. There is so much to explore. Thanks again!

"ABSOLUTELY GREAT TOUR"
Great overall tour of Yellowstone. Tour guide David was terrific and accomodated our specific needs. The lunch that was catered in was also excellent. All four of us thought that the one day tour was the best part of our trip

-from a July 2011TripAdvisor.Com review

Dave and Debbie, I just wanted to say thanks to both of you for the trip last week. My parents really enjoyed the half day tour we went on - they said it was the perfect amount for them. The stories Dave was able to add really gave them a better sense of the park. I would definitely recommend your tours to anyone that visits the park! Enjoy the season!

-M. Verbanick, May 2011 Yellowstone trip

"We love Debbie and Dave!"
When planning our trip to Yellowstone, I read a glowing review of Lava Creek Adventures and then spoke with Debbie Robinson about our trip. Our decision to hire Lava Creek for a private two day tour was the best decision made and well worth the extra expense. We started our adventure with Debbie , kayaking Hebgen Lake late afternoon for 2-3 hours, a great way to start the trip. Up bright and early (better viewing, fewer people), Debbie picked us up for our tour of the Lower Loop and spent the day with an very enthusiastic guide. She is sooooooo much fun and very knowledgeable. Our second day was again an early rise, by choice, and spent the day with David Robinson touring the Upper Loop. David has a scientific background and was a walking encyclopedia, yet had the knack of explaining things in a very understandable manner. We highly recommend Lava Creek and recommend booking a private tour.

-M. Erwin, from a September 2010 trip (TripAdvisor.Com review)

We'd highly recommend Lava Creek to those seeking to learn and stray off the beaten track while having the attentive guidance of an experienced local. We had David Robinson as our guide and found his love and knowledge of nature deep and engaging. David spoke to our varying interests and ages and showed an aptitude for teaching children. He's one of those rare persons who leaves you feeling blessed just to have met him. Our experience in Yellowstone was largely enriched by David's vast knowledge and years of experience exploring the Park and its surrounding area. He took us in a van that fit 11 passengers for 3 days and gave us the flexibility of where and what to see and do each day---which was nice because the weather was so unpredictable. We also rented kayaks from him and appreciated his advice on where to go to enjoy nature up-close without the gaggle of other tourists. We're thankful we booked a tour with Lava Creek. There would have been so much we would have missed out on if we hadn't.

Debbie - That was my favorite day, despite (or maybe because of) the challenging endeavor! Lots of great photos, which I'll forward on once a little editing gets done.

The Jones family, from a July 2010 kayak tour

Just wanted to thank you for our wonderful day in the park. The rest of our vacation was fantastic and filled with lots of amazing sights and adventure, but nothing compared with the trip you took us on. We learned so much and you were wonderful with all three kids. They continue to talk about all the information you shared with them about the park, wildlife, and thermal areas. They felt so comfortable asking you questions and John and I are so impressed by your vast knowledge. The day we spent with you was truly the highlight of our trip. Thank you!

- J. Lancaster, July 2010

What a fabulous experience - great accommodations and wonderful people. Lava Creek Adventures was superb! We did the kayaking and a full day tour of Yellowstone and our guide was exceptional! This has been the trip of a lifetime!!!

-From Mr. Lasher and family, visiting from Pennsylvania, June 2010
(please check with www.westyellowstonecondos.com for the accomodations to which he refers)

"David is very knowledgeable & professional about different aspects of the park. Also, we were so impressed by his preparation. He prepared at least 4 binoculars (3 hand-held & 1 with tripod) for us to watch wildlife easily. What’s more amazing was that he had prepared some sort of demonstration kit or materials. For example, while he was explaining the body hair of bisons, he took out a small packet which contained bison’s hair for us to feel. It is much softer than we think."

"We highly recommend Lava Creek Adventures for travellers targeted towards Yellowstone Park."

"Dear Debbie-It really was the highlight of my trip hanging out with you, the birds & the mosquitoes in July this year that evening! I hope the business continues to thrive in 2010. Best wishes!"

-From Ms. K. Armstrong, visiting from Australia, July 2009 kayak tour

"Thanks so much for all your help and guidance during our Yellowstone visit. So glad we chose you for our van tour, my sister commented on how knowledgeable you were. Also I thank you for the kayak tour, it was definitely a highlight of the trip for my son and I."

-From Mrs L. Donnelly, visiting with her family from New York, Sept 2009

"David-Faustine and I want to thank you for such an enjoyable and memorable kayaking adventure. We mentioned that we read about the guy you bought the kayaks from in this book: Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks by Lonely Planet (p 203). In case you have not seen this, we wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks again!"

-Mr. T. Settle, visiting with his wife from Virginia, August 2009

"Just a note to say "thanks" for taking care of us last Thursday on our kayak outing to Hebgen Lake. We had a terrific time - the Aspen were beautiful, the weather outstanding, the scenery awesome, and the equipment perfect for the conditions. I appreciate your call about the water bottle I left behind - we just could not make it back to West Yellowstone before we left, so add it to your gear inventory and put it to good use!"

-Mr P. Funke, visiting with family from California, July 2009

"During last Tuesday's West Yellowstone School Board meeting, each of you was recognized for volunteering your time and evergy to assist our 6th grade students during Expedition Yellowstone week. It was reported that this was a pinnacle and moving experience for our young students. We thank you and appreciate all that you do for our students and school."

-Mrs. L. Calton, K-6 WYS Principal, May 2008

"What an exemplary guide and host you were, how generous and gracious in every way, and how surprisingly knowledgeable you are about "my" park. For us, it was perhaps the greatest day of a long winter. Many thanks for an unforgettable day."

-Lee Family visiting from Utah, Jan 2008

"Jan. 8 David took us on the Old Faithful tour. My husband Brad and I enjoyed it immensely. We also enjoyed all the information David gave us on the Park. There were even some things my husband didn’t know. I’ve been passing it along to our 3 kids, which is nice for a change. Thank you."

-Mr. & Mrs. Bradley, visiting from Montana, January 2008

"We just wanted to extend our thanks to David, who was our guide on August 24th in Yellowstone. It was one of the best days of our holiday. David was knowledgeable, engaging, and very patient with our teenage daughters. He listened to our hopes for the day and ensured that all were met. Even the spot for our picnic (which was delicious by the way) was well thought through, and the swim at the end of the day was very welcome.

Could you please pass on our thanks and best wishes.”
