Lava Creek, LLC donates a portion of its revenues each year to a variety of non-profit educational organizations that provide children (and adults) with outdoor educational opportunities in and around Yellowstone National Park. The programs enhance what kids are doing in school and provide opportunities for hands- on learning in the world's most magnificent classroom - The Greater Yellowstone Area. These include the West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation, the NSC/West Yellowstone Environmental Education Center, the West Yellowstone Foundation, the , and the Yellowstone Association, among others.
Our guides travel with binoculars and a spotting scope. Bring your own if you have a pair you really like, and don't forget your camera!
Park entry fees and taxes (3%) are not included in the trip cost. Check here for Yellowstone entry fees or call and we'll help with any questions.
We do all sorts of customized trips - please call if you have something special in mind.
Reservations & Cancellations
We strongly recommend making reservations well in advance of your trip, particularly during the summer months. While we do our best to accommodate short-notice trips, to ensure that we have a guide and/or rental gear available, please let us know your plans at the earliest possible date. A 25% deposit is required to make a Yellowstone tour reservation. Guided kayak tours and rentals require a credit card to hold the reservation, but there is no deposit and the card will not be charged until the day of your trip.
In the event that you need to cancel your trip, you will receive a full refund if you contact us more than 14 days prior to your trip date. A cancellation inside of 14 days will mean that we can either reschedule, give you a credit toward another trip at a later date, or there is a forfeiture of the deposit. A no-show will result in the full amount of your reserved guided trip or rental being charged to your credit card, so make sure you let us know if you can’t make it!
The weather in Yellowstone is unpredictable. The variable weather is part of what makes this place special, and often provides for more interesting and beautiful experiences than could be had if it was always sunny and warm. We do not refund Yellowstone guided trip deposits or payments for weather related reasons, unless the highways are closed and travel is impossible. We do reserve the right to cancel kayak trips due to dangerous or unsafe weather conditions, and we'll refund your deposit, reschedule, or give you a gift certificate (your option) if that occurs. Call us (or check out our weather page) and we'll help you plan for whatever the weather might bring!
Gratuities
Professional guides typically receive gratuities for their work. Guides work hard to hone their craft, often at considerable personal expense, so they can provide you with the best possible experience. Expert guides are normally tipped between 10-20%of the trip cost. The decision is ultimately yours, however, and you should tip what you feel is appropriate. No guide should expect a tip, but they certainly appreciate it after a job well done.
